About Us: Metal Ink

Metal Ink is the world's 1st tattoo-inspired crowdsourcing graphic t-shirt company. This exciting new participatory design project enables tattoo enthusiasts, professionals and amateurs alike, to create tees using their original tattoo designs. We like to call it wearable body art.

Tattoo designs are scored by the Metal Ink community of body art enthusiasts. The best designs will be printed on high quality tees and sold on the Metal Ink website. The winners will be given a prize of $700 in cash and $300 in credit, plus residual bonuses of up to $5,000 based on tees sold. All participants will also receive a free profile page on the Metal Ink website, where users can comment on their work, allowing them to gain exposure in the body art community.

Artists who have submitted their creative vision will be given the opportunity to be recognized by the Metal Ink design team as well as the Metal Ink community. Metal Ink hosts an annual contest: the “Metal Ink Tattoo Tee of the Year” contest. The contest gives designers the chance to win $3,000 cash and $1,000 credit, as well as publicity in the graphic design, tattoo art and fashion industries.

The makers of Metal Ink believe strongly in giving back to their community and creating a gateway for both up-and-coming and experienced artists to showcase their work and receive the praise and recognition they deserve. The line is designed, manufactured and produced in a sweatshop-free environment in the heart of downtown Los Angeles.

Too few lines recognize the growing popularity of tattoo art subculture and alternative beauty. Metal Ink was born out of the desire to fuse body art and fashion and celebrate real, non-clichéd beauty. By putting the soup to nuts of t-shirt design and production in the hands of new and emerging talent, Metal Ink provides a creative, social platform for the tattoo community on the web.

About Maiden of the Month

Metal Ink came up with the idea to hold a Maiden of the Month contest to foster positivity about body art and alternative forms of beauty. As a fashion brand, we realize the influence we have on our audience, and we want to convey Metal Ink's brand image as appreciative of alternative beauty and not restricted to the aesthetics of mainstream media.

The Maiden of the Month contest provides a positive setting where female members of the Metal Ink community can embrace their sexuality in a fashion-forward way. We invite female members to send in photographs wearing Metal Ink tees and underwear. We post qualified submissions on our website for voting. Winners of the Maiden of the Month contest are awarded prizes of $700 in cash and $300 in credit. Winning Maidens will also participate in artsy, sexy fashion photo shoots with some nudity which will be displayed on our site. Maidens in the US will be flown to Los Angeles for the photo shoots, and for Maidens outside of the US, Metal Ink will hire a local photographer. Select Maidens will also be given the opportunity to create a special line of tees using her signature tattoos. Maidens with their own unique line of Metal Ink tees will receive a royalty of $1 per sale.
